Stuffit Expander 6.0 won't launch. I get the error:

"The application "StuffIt Expander" could not be opened because
"TextEncodingConverter" could not be found."

Any ideas?

Oh, never mind, I think it's utterly hosed. Pretty much every app on the
system is refusing to run, with the same error.

That makes sense, as TEC is a pretty fundamental low-level extension.
Perhaps a better error message would be "You're screwed" ;-)

Cheers,

Chris

Do you have the Text Encoding Converter installed? This is an Apple
extension, and abbreviated TEC.

Cheers,

Chris

No it isn't, it's called Text Encoding Converter in the Extensions
folder. You also need to make sure you have the Text Encodings folder
installed in the System Folder too.

It is abbreviated as TEC in other places, perhaps just the documentation.

I see, I just checked in the Systems Folder, that's all.

I couldn't be bothered hunting down the cause. I didn't need to keep
anything on the disk so I just wiped it and re-installed.

Works now. :)

Blimey, talk about sledgehammer and nut. You could have just reinstalled
Text Encoding Converter!

Well it was an "inherited" Mac anyway and I wanted a clean system.

Got one now. :P
