I know there are one or two GraphicConverter fans around u.c.s.m.

Is there a despeckle option buried somewhere that I have missed? I need
to tidy up some scanned images that have a lot of speckles in them.

Hmm, dunno, I haven't used GC that much lately, now I'm working on an
Aperture/Elements workflow. There is a noise filter hidden in the Blur
submenu under Filters.

If you have serious noise reduction work to do though, I'd recommend
getting either NoiseWare or NoiseNinja.

The one supplied in Photoshop Elements isn't bad, and I think there's
one in Gimp as well.

Probably not worth firing-up another application for these as they are
scanned cartoons from an old paperback. Certainly not worth pulling in
to Aperture.

I tried using a noise filter in GC but it made little difference. I'll
check out the two noise apps you recommend and maybe just paint out
the noise in GC.

I have a philosophical objection to current versions of Photoshop
Elements, nothing to do with its photo editing abilities though.

Cheers,

Steve

Ok, fair enough. Both the noise solutions I've listed both cost as much
as GC anyway, if you want a cheap solution, there's still Gimp.

What you really need for those is a descreening filter - most scanner
software has one for such a job.
