Following on from my pearlier thread, what is a good current Newsreader for
the Mac. I’m using Hogwasher but I’m not happy with it. I used to use
MacSoups for years but it’s not supported now.

Any alternatives around that are any good. I tried T’bird but that drove me
to Hogwasher. A mistake.

Actually MacSOUP is still supported but presumably won't be when
the next macos release comes out later this year. As you know I've been
trying out slrn but would really prefer a reader than isn't CLI based.
So, like you, I'm open to suggestions.

A minor correction - MacSOUP is no longer supported in the sense that no
further software updates will happen. Stefan has made that quite clear.
But yes, it still works and can be downloaded.

And Stefan will still help if you have difficulties setting up or using
it. So its use is supported to an extent.

Since I cannot upgrade past El Cap, I for one am grateful for this.

Yes, I've had a look at this some time ago now, and settled with T'bird
just for news reading. I don't think usenet has enough 'business' now to
warrant spending money on a dedicated client.

I did try it for my emails as well, but it's just too quirky for my
likings, and doesn't seem reliable enough in some parts.

Seconded - on both points

What do you mean 'not supported'?
I emailed Stefan with a question about a malfunction
and got an almost immediate and helpful reply,

It will not run on the next macOS as MacSOUP is only 32 bit.
So Mojave is the last OS to be able to run it and Stephan made it clear
that he does not have the time to do an update to 64 bit.

Either you run it in a vm or it´s dead when you install macOS 10.15 next
year.
