Discussion:
ATI PCI graphics cards is there a difference? NTSC V PAL?
(too old to reply)

I am trying to buy an upgraded PCI graphics card for my B & W Powermac. The
Radeon 7000 seems to be the best choice but most are being sold on ebay as
NTSC. Are these cards different to the one we use in Europe or do they just
use NTSC if used with US drivers and PAL for Europe?

Has the card got video in or out? I don't think PAL/HTSC will make a
difference for monitor output as it is the specifications TVs use.

I've no idea. I just find it hard to believe that ATI would make two
versions of this card. I would have thought that the video mode is set in
software, but US web sites list the card as NTSC.

Not specific to ATI cards.. but from past experiences of flashing PC stuff
to Mac:

Most likely the video mode is set in the cards firmware rom which is
software flashable so in theory you could change from NTSC to PAL. The
broadcast circuitry should be the same. Historically there used to be since
the broadcast standards *are* different but these days you can get all the
gubbins to drive both standards on the same chip. You still may get a basic
hardware mod like a strap or resistor being used to determine which
personality the card has.

Most TV's these days can handle NTSC input (even the little 14" portable I
bought recently) so it's not much of an issue if the card isn't PAL.

I only want to use it with my monitor, so is the NTSC thing irrelevant?
