Discussion:
Any such thing as auto accompaniment software for Mac

Is there anything on the Mac that will allow me to

(A) Play chord shapes at a set split point on a MIDI keyboard and
generate an auto accompaniment in a specific style (just like a home
keyboard/organ would do) and

(B) allow me to footle around with the right hand at the same time.

In real time.

Band in a box is not quite there - horrific roadcrash of an interface
and only allows step time input of chord shapes from MIDI, although once
entered, footling with the right hand is allowed.

Anything out there?

Id like this to practice ideas with before having to step time them
otherwise it gets tedious.

I don't know of any software which will let you do them both
simultaneously. But the stuff you're asking tells me that you
should be looking at Apple's Garage Band for similar facilities.

Garage Band has no MIDI out, which makes it a bit rubbish for keyboards.
Flamebait this may be, but I still don't see much difference between
Garage Band and the Amiga's SoundTracker from pre-history. Live audio
input is nice. Ish. But I really don't see much else, except the
mind-numbing CPU crushing abilities (Amiga ran on a 7.1Mhz 16bit chip
with 512k RAM).

Hoping that Garage Band might join the modern world in v2.0 - we'll see
soon enough.

Cheers,
Ian

Sounds really as if you need a MIDI keyboard which will do just that -
What is the point of the Mac in the system?

Not in real time (at least not last time I looked, but I'm several
upgrades behind) but Band in a Box allows you to enter a definite chord
sequence to which it will generate a wide range of accompaniments, and
allow the necessary footling. But you probably knew that anyway!
